2/12/13 – Week six

Posted on Feb 13, 2013 in class notes

Yesterday in class we did a real world scenario. Amanda had us redesign the homepage for arthaus.org. But, soon after starting, she told us to switch computers with another student. Lacy and I had to finish each others design.

I didn’t get very far with my own design. I had a plan though. I work kind of slow.

On Lacy’s design: I replaced the header image, added another image in the body, changed the colors a bit, added and organized the rest of the information, created a footer.

It was really odd taking over another person’s design. I had to figure out what was what in the file. Unlike me, Lacy’s file was fairly organized. Although I didn’t pay much attention to the layer organization. I just clicked on whatever piece I needed to move around (I always use auto-select layer with the move tool in Photoshop).

I’ve learned that I need to be better at organizing my files/layers. I mean I do! But not right off the bat usually. I think the biggest challenge with this exercise was the time limit. I’m not to the point where I can work quickly and efficiently in Photoshop (at least when working with type…ARRGH!).
